It was in 1734 that Duke Mazarin-Mancini allowed the demolition of several gates of the city, provided that his weapons were included in the new structures. The city of Nevers decided to replace the medieval gate of the Ardilliers and built at its own expense from 1742 to 1746 a more modern building: the Porte de Paris.
The Porte de Paris celebrates the victory of Louis XV in Fontenoy in 1745.
It was restored several times during the 19th century and was classified as a historical monument in 1930.
The 1950s saw the birth of the diversion of the RN7 and then the A77, avoiding heavy traffic at the entrance to the city.
Its restoration was completed in 2019
